Sabah Tourism Board has created a MICE promotion unit in preparation for the thrust in selling their destination for meetings and conferences.
This coincides with the construction of the first dedicated convention centre, targeted for opening in 2019. The new convention centre will have multiple facilities across five levels and be spread over 92,000 square metres of event space, located in the prime Kota Kinabalu central business district. The new MICE promotion unit will function as a convention bureau of Sabah with a staff strength of 10 mulled from the parent unit.
Gordon Yapp, general manager of Sabah Tourism Board (pictured) said: “Duties will include bidding for regional and international conferences. The convention centre will be able to hold events with up to 5000 delegates.”
