Sheraton appoints new HR director in Bengaluru

Sherona Fernandes has been appointed as the director of human resources at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel & Convention Center. With over a decade of experience in human resource management and corporate and employment laws, Sherona formulates innovative HR initiatives and ensures effective communication at all levels.

Sherona began her career at Al Bustan Palace Intercontinental Hotel, Oman. In the course of her career she has been associated with renowned names in the hospitality industry like Crowne Plaza Hotels and Ramada Hotels prior to moving to India into her current role at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel and Convention Center.

Simran Mahal heads up sales at The St Regis Mumbai

The St Regis Mumbai has appointed Simran Mahal as director of sales. Simran brings with her a wealth of experience in sales in the luxury hospitality industry.  Having commenced her career with the Marriott Group of Hotels, Simran garnered over 10 years of knowledge and skill with Oberoi Hotels.  She rose in rank to associate director of sales.  As a part of the core team of one of the largest revenue generating properties, Simran will lead the dynamic team. An alumnus from the prestigious Institute of Hotel Management, Aurangabad, Simran has led a large and robust team to drive room sales and banquets sales in her role in the recent past.

New role for Zubin Saxena at Radisson Hotel Group

Radisson Hotel Group has announced the appointment of Zubin Saxena as its new managing director and vice president of operations, South Asia. Zubin is also a member of the group’s Asia Pacific executive committee and is involved in growing and directing the company’s business in South Asia. In his new role, Zubin will provide counsel to the South Asia team. During his three-and-a-half-year tenure, he has been instrumental in adding over 50 hotel projects and expanding the portfolio making Radisson Hotel Group one of the largest and fastest growing international hotel chains in South Asia. Previously, Zubin has held senior and leadership positions with prominent global companies such as InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels and HVS-New York.

Sally Baughen is new GM of Six Senses Bhutan

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has appointed Sally Baughen as general manager of Six Senses Bhutan, a property comprising five individual lodges.

Based in Thimphu, the hospitality veteran has over 25 years experience. In her most recent role, Baughen led development and pre-opening operations for 700,000 Heures in Cambodia. Prior to that, she was a consultant with the Split Apple Retreat in Tasman, New Zealand.

The New Zealander first began her professional career in the F&B division of Bali’s Amankila, then moving to roles at Nihiwatu and Como Shambhala Begawan Giri, also in Bali. Returning to Aman Resorts, she relocated to Myanmar as general manager of The Strand in Yangon, a position that she held for five years before leading Amanbagh’s opening in India.

Over the course of her tenure with Aman, she has also served as general manager at Amankila and Amandari, and played a leadership role on the pre-opening team at Amanfayun in Hangzhou. She then moved to Cambodia to helm Amansara in Cambodia from 2011 to 2016.

Edouard Demptos is new GM at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok

Edouard Demptos has been appointed the general manager of Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok.

Before moving to Thailand, Demptos was hotel manager at Grand Hyatt Singapore from June 2016.

Demptos first joined Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in 2004 and has since worked in Morocco, Spain, the Philippines, China and Singapore. He arrived in Asia in May 2009 as director of food and beverage (F&B) at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila and subsequently joined Hyatt on the Bund, in Shanghai.

Varun Sahani named VP operations for Kamat

The Kamat Group of Hotels has announced the appointment of Varun Sahani as vice president operations for the group. A seasoned professional, Varun Sahani has over two decades of experience in hospitality operations and sales. An IHM graduate, he has an excellent track record of pre-openings and establishing operations.

Sahani joined The Orchid Mumbai, Asia’s first five-star Ecotel hotel, in 2015 as general manager. Prior to that, he held senior level management and operations positions with The Lalit, Clarks Inn and Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort. In his new role Sahani will spearhead the operations, marketing and sales, revenue management and strategic growth initiatives of the award-winning 372- room property, The Orchid Mumbai.

Gaurav Singh is GM of Courtyard by Marriott, Bengaluru

Gaurav Singh has been appointed as multi-property general manager at Courtyard by Marriott & Fairfield by Marriott-Bengaluru and Fairfield by Marriott Rajajinagar.

A seasoned hotelier with experience that spans over 17 years, Singh started his career in 1999 as a management trainee at ITC Hotels, Delhi. During his tenure with ITC Hotels, he opened two of the finest food and beverage operations at the ITC Grand Maratha and the ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. His vast experience in food and beverage operations in multiple award-winning restaurants soon earned him the position of food and beverage manager in 2005 at the Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra. In 2007 he was promoted to executive assistant manager food and beverage and the following year was appointed executive assistant manager in charge of hotel operations at the Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur. It is here that he gained additional experience in rooms division, engineering and sales. Singh moved to Courtyard by Marriott Ahmedabad as the general manager in 2013.

Ather Raza directs operations at Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort & Spa

Ather Raza has been appointed director of operations at the Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort & Spa. He brings with him over 16 years of hospitality experience and will oversee the functioning of various departments at the property. Prior to joining Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort & Spa, Raza worked as an executive assistant manager (rooms) at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel & Convention Centre.

Raza joined the Marriott group in 2001 and has handled the pre-opening of properties like Sheraton Bangalore at Brigade Gateway, Aloft Bengaluru at Cessna Business Park, Sheraton Grand Bengaluru and Sheraton Whitefield Hotel and Convention Centre.

In the course of his career, he has also been associated with renowned hotels such as JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu and Goa Marriott Resort and Spa.

Tommy Lai takes reins as GHM Hospitality CEO

The 26-year-old luxury hotel group GHM has appointed Tommy Lai as its CEO. A Singaporean citizen, Lai will assume some responsibilities currently managed by GHM co-founder and president, Hans R Jenni, but Lai’s primary role is to spearhead the development opportunities and to drive GHM’s overall growth ambitions.

Lai joins GHM after six years with the Thailand-based Onyx Hospitality Group, where he led their North Asia operation from Hong Kong. He has well-rounded understanding of the hospitality industry,

Musa Yusof, is new director general, Tourism Malaysia

Musa Yusof, a familiar face to the Malaysian travel industry stakeholders, has been appointed the new director general of Tourism Malaysia, succeeding Mirza Mohammad Taiyab who has recently retired.

Prior to his appointment, Musa was Tourism Malaysia’s senior director, international promotion division (Asia/Africa). He joined Tourism Malaysia (then known as Tourist Development Corporation of Malaysia) in 1990, as assistant director of enforcement and facilitation division. Since then, he has worked in several key positions including as special officer (tourism) to the then culture, arts & tourism minister Sabbaruddin Chik. Musa was also the director of Tourism Malaysia Paris office from 1998 until 2003.

His experience in Tourism Malaysia includes market development, corporate, international promotion, promotional support and domestic marketing.

Subhankar Bose is GM of Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel

Subhankar Bose has been appointed general manager at Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel. Bose brings a wealth of over 17 years of operational experience, with expertise in hospitality operations and management.

Prior to this role, Bose served as the resident manager at JW Marriott Hotel Bengaluru where he was responsible for efficient operations of the property. He has also served a long stint with Hyatt Hotels in India with various roles in the rooms division.

Manish Dayya is new GM Hyderabad International Convention Centre

Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre and Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has appointed Manish Dayya as the new general manager. He brings with him over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry. He has been with AccorHotels since 2013 and has held multiple roles across various locations in India.

Dayya has experience working with leading domestic and international brands. He joined AccorHotels Group as the general manager of Novotel Goa Resort & Spa and Novotel Goa Shrem Hotel. He then went on to head the operations of Novotel Lavasa, Mercure Lavasa and Lavasa International Convention Centre as the area general manager. Prior to the Hyderabad appointment he was the General Manager of Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach.
