Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre expansion will enable concurrent large events

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) will add 11,000 sq m of flexible, multi-purpose space to bring its total space inventory to 33,659 sq m this year, enabling organisers to host multiple concurrent events and congresses.

The additional space, which will have a direct link to the existing facility, is comprised of a large foyer area for pre-event activities, three new halls measuring 2,862 sq m each are being added, which can be subdivided by retractable walls and each hall will have two hospitality lounges which can be utilised as secretariat rooms, VIP rooms and breakout meeting rooms.

Alan Pryor, general manager of the KLCC, said: “Over the past 13 years of operation, the centre has successfully built a strong base of annual repeat clients. Currently, 60 per cent of our events are recurrent and continue to increase in size year-on-year. Adapting to these ever-growing events, combined with the need for more flexible space, was one of the main reasons we initiated the expansion. Having the extension gives us the room to be even more creative, innovative and customisable in meeting our clients’ needs. The expansion will provide the capability to meet the current and future needs of the Malaysian business events industry.”

Some of the major events lined up in 2019 at the venue, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city, are Dental Aesthetic Symposium with Dental Exhibition and International Beauty Expo in May, Oil and Gas Asia in June, Soroptimist International Convention in July, Urological Association of Asia Congress and 62nd ISI World Statistics Congress in August, Food & Hotel Malaysia in September and Asia Pacific Congress of Interventional Oncology in October.
