In a definitive statement of confidence in Asia as a MICE destination, The United Networks of International Corporate Events Organisers (UNICEO) will house its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore in 2018, with the objective of expanding its reach in a region it considers “the most strategic market in the next decade.”
Laurent Fuchs, ceo of UNICEO said: “Singapore was a natural choice, taking into account that we already have UNICEO members here.” Fuchs expects that Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai may be future hubs for the development in the region.
Leaders meetings will be organised periodically in Singapore with Kuala Lumpur also used due to its proximity, while Thailand and China will remain in the ambit for growth. Seventy per cent of UNICEO’s current membership is from Europe while the Asia Pacific contributes a 10 per cent share which UNICEO hopes to increase to 20 per cent soon, relying on local members’ competence in identifying business sectors where all their members can target for growth.
Fuchs commented: “Asia Pacific is a booming area with a growing population, economic development and technological innovations. UNICEO is running as a ‘community of Practice’ where members share information and intelligence to create better events. The combined experience and approaches of both Asia Pacific and European members can only be profitable for the network.” UNICEO partnered with the recently concluded ITB Asia to make their presence felt. Their European Congress will be held in Budapest in June 2018.
