Austria has recorded an eight per cent growth in Indian visitor arrivals to top 192,000 Indian travellers in 2018, buoyed by the exposure of several Bollywood movies shot in the country. The growth graph has encouraged the tourism stakeholders from Austria, such as the Vienna Tourist Board, Salzburg City Tourist Office, Innsbruck Tourist Board and Swarovski Crystal Worlds, as well as incoming DMCs and Austrian hotels, to visit Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad to meet travel agents and incentive planners and showcase the destination for the 2019 season.
Isabella Rauter, global head of public relations for the Vienna Tourist Board, said: “India continues to be among the 20 most prominent markets with nearly 63,000 Indians visiting Vienna.”
Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck have emerged as popular destinations for Indian incentive travel. In 2019, Innsbruck introduced a Guided Bollywood Tour, tracing the path and venues where popular Indian movies were filmed.
Christine Mukharji, director India for the Austria National Tourist Office, stated:”Austria witnessed 192,900 arrivals from India in 2018, which was an 8.6 per cent increase on 2017. India is one of the important markets for us. We believe Austria offers everything for the Indian traveller from culture, history to shopping, adventure sports and soft sport activities.”
